NZRPA Hospitality NZRPA Quarterly

Drug Free Sport

The NZRPA believe that the key to drug free sport is athlete responsibility. Consequently the NZRPA works closely with Drug Free Sport New Zealand on education initiatives using current and past players as a means of educating new and exisiting players. Adidas is a key business partner supporting the initiatives in this area.

In 2007 players from all 14 Air New Zealand Cup Provincial Unions had the opportunity to attend an anti-doping education session and take the drug free pledge. Players learned about matters including:

  • Athlete responsibility
  • The WADA code and what makes up a banned substance or method
  • Categories of substances on the banned list
  • Therapeutic Use Exemptions and how and when to obtain them
  • How to find out if a substance is banned
  • Pentalties for anti-doping infractions
