Personal Development Managers (PDM’s) from across the country, NZR and NZRPA staff were inspired by some special guest speakers when they gathered for their bi-annual conference in Auckland on Wednesday.

The two-day conference featured two special guest speakers including former New Zealander of the Year Dr Lance O’Sullivan.  They dynamic Doctor provided great inspiration about innovation as he shared his unconventional personal journey to becoming a Doctor and his approach to medicine.

With resilience a theme for the Personal Development Programme this year, expert Hugh van Cuylenburg from the Resilience project in Australia provided a variety of interesting and practical tools to help build resilience in people.

The conference also provided an opportunity for PDM’s to share ideas and plans for the off field player personal development programmes that they continue to deliver in their own Franchises and Provincial Unions around New Zealand.  A range of providers also attended the conference to highlight the skills and services they can offer players.

David Gibson from the NZRPA who manages the Personal Development Programme said “We always enjoy the opportunity for everyone from around the country to get together to share ideas but it was particularly special to have Lance and Hugh join us and share their vision and inspiration and we look forward to using what we have learned.”
