A group of former rugby players gathered for the NZRPA Rugby Club 2016 Christchurch event on Friday.

The afternoon appropriately kicked off with a sporting focus with a game of cricket at the Howzat Indoor Sports complex in Riccarton.

As expected the cricket reproduced the competitive nature of some of the group with some heavy banter flying around.   After showering up the group met at a local venue, ‘No 4’ to watch the historic Chiefs v Crusader match live from Suva on the big screen.

Former Crusader and All Blacks captain Richie McCaw who attended the event said “The NZRPA Rugby Club is a great initiative.  Rugby produces some great friendships and the NZPRA rugby club offers the environment to reconnect with people you have not seen in while and to share stories of where people are at and the success and challenges we experience.”

Tim Weston from the NZRPA said “Once again it was a great opportunity for the NZRPA Rugby Club to gain momentum.  We now have some very engaged players who are keen to help us grow the club.  Friday’s event was another illustration of how important it is for players to keep connecting with each other and drive the concept with fellow past players.”

The NZRPA are working to establish a thriving network of retired New Zealand Professional Rugby Players across the country to provide camaraderie, networking, support and advice.

The next event will be held in Dunedin on 16 July 2016.  If you would like any more information on the NZRPA Rugby Club for past professional players please contact Tim.Weston@nzrpa.co.nz.
