David Kirk MBE — President

David Kirk is a former New Zealand rugby union player best known for having been the captain of the All Blacks when they won the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987. A medical doctor, Rhodes Scholar and former parliamentary advisory, David was awarded an MBE in the 1998 New Year Honours for services to rugby. David has held many senior roles in a variety of organisations including CEO of Fairfax Media and Chairman of Trade Me. He continues to sit on several boards and is a trustee of several charities. The author of two books was inducted into the IRB Hall of Fame in 2011.

Doug Wilson — Independent

Doug is a Practicing Chartered Accountant with over 24 years’ experience working predominately for Deloitte Hamilton, with the exception of three years of working in the UK from 1996-1998. His work experience combines many years of mid market accounting and advisory work, and management consulting roles including strategic advisory work. Over the last several years he has also led the provision of corporate finance services in the Central North Island which compliments his existing areas of expertise. Doug has over 13 years of governance experience including both directorships and trusteeships, including: Waikato Rugby Union, Grassroots Trust, Habitat for Humanity CNI, Waikato Diocesan School for Girls and the Jonah Lomu Legacy Trust. As a player of the great game, Doug represented Waikato Rugby Senior A team in an era that won the inaugural NPC title in 1992 and the Ranfurly shield in 1993, and participated in the Super10 competition in 1994, 1995. In addition, Doug represented New Zealand Universities in 1993, and was the manager for the Chiefs Franchise in 2001, 2002 seasons.

Tammi Wilson Uluinayau — Independent

Tammi Wilson Uluinayau is a former Black Fern who played in the 1998 and 2002 Women’s Rugby World Cup. Tammi is a quadruple sporting international, having represented New Zealand in rugby, sevens, league and touch and is currently a Kaiarataki Maori Equity Academic and Physiotherapy Lecturer at AUT in Auckland. She is a former Independent National Board Member of The Royal New Zealand Plunket Society and has a postgraduate Diploma in Health Science, a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy, a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma of Teaching and owns her own physiotherapy practice.

Sam Cane — Player Representative

Sam Cane is the Chiefs co-captain. Sam was part of the All Blacks world cup winning team in 2015 and captained the side in one of the pool matches. He made his debut in the black jersey in 2012. A double Super Rugby title winner with the Chiefs, Sam also represented the New Zealand U20's, winning the Junior World Championship. The Reporoa born player is a former New Zealand Age Group Player.

Dane Coles — Player Representative

Dane Coles is a Hurricanes centurion having made his Super Rugby debut in 2009. The highly agile ball-running hooker has also captained the Hurricanes and guided them to their maiden Super Rugby victory in 2016. In that same year the father of two was awarded the Tom French Memorial Cup as Maori rugby player of the year. Coles is part of the Wellington Lions and represented New Zealand in the Maori All Blacks and at the U21’s level. He began his career in the All Black jersey in 2012 and was part of the Rugby World Cup winning team of 2015.

Lesley Elder — Player Representative

Les Elder (nee Ketu) started out playing rugby for Waikato in 2004. After a stint in netball Elder got back into rugby while living in Australia. She returned to New Zealand in 2013 and cracked the Black Ferns in 2015 after impressing on the field for Waikato. The natural leader came back from injury to make the winning Rugby World Cup side in 2017. After being in the Black Ferns leadership group, the openside flanker was named captain of the Black Ferns in 2019. Elder currently works as a Rugby Development officer for Bay of Plenty Rugby.

DJ Forbes — Player Representative

DJ Forbes is a former All Black sevens double Commonwealth Games gold medalist and has been part of a World Series winning side on numerous occasions. The former national sevens captain and father of two has been playing the short form of the game since 2006 and is a previous World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year winner. Forbes also played in the National Provincial Championship for Counties Manukau and has been on the New Zealand Players Association Board since 2014.

Sarah Hirini (nee Goss) — Player Representative

Sarah Hirini (nee Goss) has developed into one of the leading sevens players in the world. The current Black Ferns Sevens captain has several accolades to her name including Sevens World Champion 2013 and 2018, Olympic silver medallist in 2016 and four-time World Series winner. She was named New Zealand’s Rugby’s women of the year player of the year in 2017 after her efforts in both sevens and 15s and most recently World Rugby Sevens, UL Mark of Excellence Award winner in 2018. Sarah has just completed her degree Bachelor of Arts in Maori studies and Sports Science at Massey University. Of Maori descent, Hirini affiliates to the Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.

James Parsons — Player Representative

James Parsons is a North Harbour centurion and Blues Super Rugby stalwart who made his All Black debut against Scotland in 2014. The former Kings College student has captained both the Blues and North Harbour sides. Born in Palmerston North, the hooker well known for his highly professional attitude has a degree in marketing and finance.

Kieran Read — Player Representative

Kieran Read is the current All Black captain. Born in South Auckland, the double world cup winner has played over 100 matches for the Crusaders. The No 8 was namd the IRB Player of the Year in 2013 and plays his Provincial Rugby for Canterbury.

Ben Smith — Player Representative

Ben Smith is the current All Black vice captain and made his debut for them in 2009. A World Cup 2015 winner and a Super Rugby title holder and centurion, Ben was awarded the Super Rugby Player of the Year title in 2013. The Otago Provincial Union player has won a gold medal at the 2010 Dehli Commonwealth Games with the New Zealand sevens side.

Ruby Tui — Player Representative

Ruby Tui has been part of the Black Ferns Sevens team since she was discovered in the Go4Gold campaign making her debut in 2012. The Rio Olympic silver medallist completed a Diploma in Sport in 2013 at Aoraki Polytechnic and has also studied a Bachelor of Arts doing a double majoring in media and communications and English. Born in Wellington, Tui grew up in Greymouth in the South Island before moving to Christchurch and is now based in Tauranga. She also does SKY TV Commentary when not playing.

Luke Whitelock — Player Representative

Palmerston North born Luke Whitelock is from the infamous Whitelock rugby family. He started his representative rugby playing for the New Zealand Under 20’s, winning the IRB Junior World Championship twice in 2010 and 2011 as captain. The loose forward made his debut for Canterbury in 2011 and played for the Crusaders the following year. He played his first All Blacks match on the Northern hemisphere tour at the end of 2013. He is now representing the Highlanders.

Sam Whitelock — Player Representative

Sam Whitelock is a double World Cup winning centurion All Black who made his debut for the side in 2010. The Crusaders captain and centurion has led his side to two Super Rugby titles. The Canterbury lock grew up in Fielding and represented New Zealand secondary schools, U19's and was part of the U20's winning the IRB Junior World Championship team in 2008. Sam has a Bachelor of Science degree from Lincoln University and is a talented basketball player.

Selica Winiata — Player Representative

Fullback Selica Winiata of Ngāti Raukawa has been part of the Black Ferns since 2008 and also played for the Black Ferns Sevens from 2008 until 2016. In 2013, she was a member of the winning Rugby World Cup Sevens team. The policewoman won New Zealand Rugby’s women’s player of the year in 2016 and was also part of the Rugby World Cup 2017 winning side. In 2019, Selica was named as one of the vice-captains of the Black Ferns. Proudly from Manawatu, Selica made her debut for the Manawatu Cyclones as a 14-year-old and was a driving force for getting female rugby up and running at Palmerston North's Freyberg High School. The speedster has broken multiple records for her province. Selica is the primary carer for two boys and even manages to referee some games for young players in her spare time.
