Taking responsibility

The NZRPA allows players to take individual and collective responsibility for contributing to the game’s success and to play their role in uniting and inspiring New Zealanders.

As the players’ official representative body, we ensure comprehensive and quality representation on issues important to them and the game. We also help players access quality independent advice through our Agents Charter – an exclusive register of the NZRPA’s player agents. It is important players talk with people they can trust. All agents accredited by the NZRPA’s charter agree to be bound by high standards of knowledge, integrity, competence and professionalism.

Meeting the challenge

As well as the contest on the field, players face many challenges off it. The NZRPA provides the education and support needed for players to better handle those demands, including a network of providers offering expert advice on a range of issues, including financial planning, banking, insurance, contracts, legal, property, personal support, personal endorsements, public relations/media (including social media), behavioural risk, anti-doping, wagering, disciplinary matters and problem solving.

Part of the NZRPA’s job is to ensure those responsible for establishing and enforcing certain rules and regulations (such as anti-doping and wagering) put an equal focus on providing players with effective education programmes.

Keeping in touch

Regular player conferences provide an open forum to discuss issues and opportunities, and generate player-led ideas and initiatives for the association to pursue. PlayersOwn is our bi-monthly magazine, where players can share stories and experiences. Regular updates keep players informed and up-to-date with the latest news and developments. Players can use our toll-free calling number to touch base at any time.

Preferred providers

Our business partners and preferred providers offer current and retired players access to a wide range of products and services including banking, accountancy, legal, insurance, clothing, electronics, vehicles, real estate, building, travel and accommodation.

Support in times of need

A love of rugby unites all our players. The Benevolent and Welfare Fund was set up by the players to provide financial support for players in the event of career-ending illness or injury, or unforeseen circumstances resulting in hardship. Our personal support network ensures players and their families can access a wide network of quality specialists on a confidential basis.
