Tammi Wilson

Tammi Wilson brings a rare combination of lived playing experience, academic leadership, and deep understanding of athlete wellbeing. A former quadruple international, Tammi represented New Zealand in Rugby Union and Sevens, Rugby League, and Touch Rugby, giving her first-hand insight into the demands placed on athletes across multiple codes.
 
Black Fern #85, Tammi was an exciting and evasive fullback whose international career spanned a golden era for women’s rugby. She finished her time in the jersey as a double Rugby World Cup champion in 1998 and 2002, earning respect for her professionalism, consistency, and ability to perform on the biggest stage. Her experience as an elite athlete during a time when women’s sport was still developing has shaped her strong advocacy for player wellbeing, equity, and long-term support.
 
Of Te Rarawa and Ngāi Tahu descent, Tammi brings a strong cultural lens to her work, grounded in identity, connection, and whanaungatanga. These values underpin her approach to leadership and her commitment to creating environments where people feel supported and able to succeed.
 
Since retiring from elite sport, Tammi has built a distinguished career across education and healthcare. She currently works at AUT University as Kaihautū, Academic Lead within the Faculty of Health and Environmental Sciences, where she provides leadership, expert academic guidance, and oversight of Māori student success. Tammi holds a Master of Philosophy (1st Class Honours), a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science, a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy, a Bachelor of Education, and a Diploma of Teaching, and is currently completing her PhD. Her academic expertise, combined with her lived experience as a player, gives her a holistic understanding of health, learning, and long-term wellbeing.
 
Tammi understands the importance of balance, identity, and preparation for life beyond sport. Respected by athletes past and present, she offers an empathetic, culturally grounded voice that champions players, education, and wellbeing—on the field and beyond the game.
