Selica Winiata

Fullback Selica Winiata of Ngāti Raukawa has been part of the Black Ferns since 2008 and also played for the Black Ferns Sevens from 2008 until 2016. In 2013, she was a member of the winning Rugby World Cup Sevens team. The policewoman won New Zealand Rugby’s women’s player of the year in 2016 and was also part of the Rugby World Cup 2017 winning side.

In 2019, Selica was named as one of the vice-captains of the Black Ferns. Proudly from Manawatu, Selica made her debut for the Manawatu Cyclones as a 14-year-old and was a driving force for getting female rugby up and running at Palmerston North's Freyberg High School. The speedster has broken multiple records for her province. Selica is the primary carer for two boys and even manages to referee some games for young players in her spare time.
